Mathematics and ecology. It’s not everyday we see these word side by side; but, according to Jennifer Thom, math is all about Oikos ( is the root word of ecology) which means “the family household.”

It makes sense! As a teacher, you want to nurture your students’ understanding of math, make sure they ‘tidy’ up their math, and encourage a community of connectedness. Math should be about examining relationships and connecting meaning to these relationships; just as environmental ecology does.
